TLC / CHILD CARE

The Learning Connection (TLC)
Before & After School Child Care

The Learning Connection (TLC) i
s a positive alternative for working parents in need of child care.  “TLC” care offers much more than extended child care.  It offers children, kindergarten through 6th grade, a positive and meaningful before and after school experience.  “TLC” is a structured program designed to help children develop social, physical and mental abilities.  Group activities as well as individual time will help each child grow to his or her potential.  “TLC” centers are located at each elementary school campus in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District.  Students attending these schools are eligible to attend the program located on that campus.

Programming
The Learning Connection maintains a high standard by offering stimulating, well-rounded daily activities.  Each day may include activities such as arts, crafts, stories, outside team or individual sports, group games, projects, cooking, drama, music, discussions and sharing, movies and special events.  Each month a daily calendar is available for parents and children to plan and prepare for upcoming activities and events.  Of course, each afternoon there is ample time for homework in a quiet setting.

Kindergarten Curriculum
The “TLC” kindergarten program provides a structured environment utilizing learning/activity centers focused on complimenting SVUSD kindergarten content standards.  The program is designed around a center-based approach that models and reinforces what the children are learning in their kindergarten classroom.  Curriculum includes centers involving Science/Technology, Mathematics/Manipulative, Art/Creative Expression, and Language Arts.  Children also participate in organized games, sports, or dance.  Programming is implemented with a healthy balance of staff-directed and child-initiated learning activities.

Snack Time
Each afternoon a nutritional snack is provided.  A menu is posted at the beginning of each week.  Discussion about nutrition and good eating habits are also included in the program.

Program Staff
Upon entering any “TLC” center, one senses the cleanliness, organization and warmth generated by the center’s appearance and the staff’s concern and caring.  The staff is highly qualified to provide top “TLC” care.  The centers include a Site Coordinator and Assistant Site Coordinator who together plan and implement a monthly calendar to provide a wide variety of activities.  One or both of these staff members will be on site daily and in charge of a complete and safe program.  Staff to child ratio is one adult to 10 children during kindergarten program operation.  During regular hours before and after school the ratio is one adult to 14 children.  A positive attitude and consistency will be observed by adults in care of the children.  The atmosphere will be one of love and respect.
